American non-profit accrediting body in Baltimore, Maryland, founded in 1932 as the Engineers' Council for Professional Development and now known as ABET, which accredits college and university programmes in applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. Accredits more than four thousand programmes in over forty countries, including biomedical, chemical and bioengineering programmes and applied science programmes, sets criteria for programme quality and student outcomes and trains volunteer programme evaluators drawn from its member professional societies.
