American not for profit health system headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, formed in 1994 and serving Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Runs about a dozen hospitals including Abbott Northwestern, United Hospital, Mercy and the Cambridge and Owatonna hospitals, more than ninety clinics, hospice and home care services and the Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute, and operates its own retail, specialty, home infusion and mail order pharmacies alongside inpatient pharmacy and medication therapy management services, with a clinical trials and cardiovascular research programme.
