German public research university in Frankfurt am Main, Hesse, founded in 1914 as a citizens' university and named after Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Its Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology and Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology teach the pharmacy state examination degree on the Riedberg science campus, and the university's medical faculty and university hospital run the Institute of Clinical Pharmacology and work with the Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology and the LOEWE centre for translational medicine on drug discovery, pharmacology and clinical trials.
