French national public research institute for agriculture, food and the environment, with its head office in Paris and centres across the country, created in 1946 as the Institut national de la recherche agronomique and merged with the environment and agriculture technology institute IRSTEA in 2020 to form INRAE. Runs research in animal health and veterinary science, animal and human nutrition, microbiology and the gut microbiota, food science and safety, plant science and natural compounds and toxicology, with its own experimental units, animal facilities and analytical platforms and many joint laboratories with universities.
