Ghanaian teaching hospital in Accra, opened in 1923 and the country's largest hospital and third largest in west Africa with about two thousand beds. Provides tertiary care through centres for cardiothoracic surgery, the national radiotherapy and nuclear medicine centre, renal dialysis and transplantation, child health, obstetrics and gynaecology, surgery and accident and emergency, runs its own laboratories, blood bank and pharmacy, and serves as the teaching hospital of the University of Ghana Medical School with clinical research.
