American clinical laboratory and drug development company with its head office at Burlington in North Carolina and listed in New York, formed in 1995 and one of the largest laboratory networks in the world. Runs clinical diagnostic testing through patient service centres and hospital laboratories across the United States, including toxicology and drug of abuse testing, and provides drug development services built on its purchase of Covance, with preclinical safety assessment, central laboratory, bioanalysis and clinical trial services.
