American public university at Farmville in Virginia, founded in 1839 and one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the state. Teaches chemistry, biology, environmental science, nursing and physics through its college of natural and behavioral sciences, runs undergraduate research programmes with faculty, and prepares students for graduate study and for medical and pharmacy schools.
