Japanese national university at Nagasaki in Kyushu, whose medical teaching goes back to the medical school of 1857 and which took its present form in 1949. Teaches pharmaceutical sciences through its school of pharmacy, together with medicine, dentistry, engineering, fisheries and the humanities, runs the Institute of Tropical Medicine known for work on infectious disease and its own university hospital, and carries out research on medicinal chemistry, drug discovery and vaccines.
