American federal toxicology research centre at Jefferson in Arkansas, one of the research centres of the Food and Drug Administration under its Office of the Chief Scientist, established on a former military site in 1971. Carries out research supporting the agency's regulatory work on the safety of medicines, food, cosmetics, tobacco products and devices, including chemical toxicology, nanotechnology, microbiology and antimicrobial resistance, systems and computational toxicology and biomarker research, and trains scientists in regulatory science.
