Sri Lankan national open university with its head office at Nawala in Nugegoda near Colombo, established in 1980 out of earlier external degree institutes and teaching by open and distance learning through regional and study centres across the country. Runs faculties of natural sciences with chemistry, botany and zoology, engineering technology, health sciences with nursing, pharmacy and medical laboratory science, education and humanities, and provides laboratory sessions, day schools and its own laboratories together with research degrees.
