Iranian national research and production institute in Tehran, founded in 1920 with French help as part of the Pasteur network and reporting to the health ministry, with a production complex at Karaj. Carries out research in virology, bacteriology, immunology, molecular biology and vaccine development, produces vaccines and biological products including BCG and other national immunisation vaccines and diagnostic reagents, runs national reference laboratories for several diseases, and trains postgraduate students in medical biotechnology and related fields.
