Chinese public research university in Haidian district, Beijing, founded in 1898 as the Imperial University of Peking and the oldest modern university in the country. Runs Peking University Health Science Center, which includes the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences teaching pharmacy, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology, natural medicines and chemical biology, together with schools of medicine, public health and nursing and a network of affiliated teaching hospitals conducting clinical trials and drug research.
