Ugandan government research institute at Entebbe on Lake Victoria, founded in 1936 as the Yellow Fever Research Institute and now under the health ministry, a national and regional reference centre for viral disease. Runs national reference laboratories for HIV, measles, polio, influenza and viral haemorrhagic fevers, carries out research on HIV, arboviruses, Ebola and emerging infections with cohort studies and vaccine trials, hosts research programmes with British and international partners and provides outbreak diagnosis and surveillance for the country.
