German public university at Leipzig in Saxony, founded in 1409 and one of the oldest in Europe. Teaches through faculties of medicine with the Leipzig university hospital, veterinary medicine, chemistry and mineralogy, life sciences, pharmacy and biosciences, alongside law, economics and the humanities, and carries out research in pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry, pharmacology and toxicology, food chemistry and veterinary sciences with its own institutes and laboratories.
