South African public research university formed in 2004 by the merger of the University of Natal with the University of Durban-Westville, with campuses at Westville, Howard College, Pietermaritzburg, Edgewood and the Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine in Durban. Its College of Health Sciences runs the Discipline of Pharmaceutical Sciences teaching the Bachelor of Pharmacy and postgraduate degrees, alongside medicine, nursing and public health, with research in drug delivery, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, HIV and tuberculosis therapeutics and traditional medicines.
