American non-profit association in Arlington, Virginia, founded in 1967, which brings together clinical engineers, manufacturers, regulators and health care staff around the safe use of medical technology. Develops and publishes consensus standards and technical information reports for medical devices, sterilisation, water for dialysis, electrical safety and quality systems, many of them adopted as national standards and used in regulatory submissions, and provides certification for biomedical equipment technicians and sterile processing staff, training courses, conferences and its journals.
