American biopharmaceutical company at New Haven in Connecticut, founded in 1998 as a spin out from Yale University and listed on Nasdaq until Alexion Pharmaceuticals acquired it in January 2020 for about 930 million dollars. Developed small molecule inhibitors of complement factor D for paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria and complement mediated kidney disease, notably danicopan and vemircopan, having earlier worked on antiviral candidates for hepatitis C; its complement programmes continue within Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease.
