American scientific society in Washington DC, chartered by the United States Congress in 1876 and one of the largest scientific societies in the world with staff also in Columbus, Ohio. Publishes chemistry journals including the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry and Journal of the American Chemical Society, runs the Chemical Abstracts Service with the CAS registry and SciFinder used across the pharmaceutical industry, holds national and regional meetings, sets education and accreditation standards for chemistry degrees and runs professional development for chemists.
