Catalan health service, the public insurer and purchaser of health care for Catalonia within the regional government, created in 1990. Plans and buys hospital, primary care, mental health and emergency services from public and contracted providers for the people of Catalonia, manages the individual health card and access to services, sets medicine reimbursement and prescribing policy for the region and runs medicine procurement and pharmaceutical spending control together with public health programmes.
