American regional poison control centre in Atlanta, based at Grady Memorial Hospital and serving the whole state of Georgia. Answers poisoning and exposure calls free of charge around the clock on the national poison help line, staffed by nurses and pharmacists certified as specialists in poison information with medical toxicologist backup, advises the public and hospitals on the treatment of poisoning by medicines, chemicals, plants and venomous animals, records exposures for surveillance and runs poison prevention education across the state.
