Indian metals company of the Aditya Birla Group, founded in 1958 and based in Mumbai, listed in India and the country's largest aluminium and copper producer with the American subsidiary Novelis. Mines bauxite and refines alumina, smelts and rolls aluminium and makes extrusions and foil, including pharmaceutical grade blister and strip foil and other packaging foil for medicines and food, and smelts copper and makes copper rods and continuous cast products together with by-products such as sulphuric acid and di-ammonium phosphate.
