American humanitarian organisation with its head office in New York, founded in 1933 at the suggestion of Albert Einstein to help people fleeing Nazi Germany, now working in more than forty crisis affected countries and resettling refugees in Europe and the United States. Runs emergency and long term health programmes with clinics, nutrition and immunisation services, supplies essential medicines and equipment to conflict areas, works on maternal and child health, epidemic response and mental health, and carries out research and evaluation on humanitarian health interventions.
