American aerospace and defence company with its head office at Bethesda in Maryland, formed in 1995 by the merger of Lockheed and Martin Marietta and one of the largest defence contractors in the world. Works through aeronautics, missiles and fire control, rotary and mission systems and space business areas building aircraft, missiles, helicopters, satellites and command and control systems, and its technology and engineering services businesses have supplied information systems and technical services to government health agencies.
