National Toxicology Program

United States interagency programme set up in 1978 and headquartered at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences at Research Triangle Park in North Carolina, bringing together that institute, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and the Food and Drug Administration's research centre. Tests and evaluates chemicals, drugs and physical agents for toxicity and carcinogenicity through long term rodent studies and newer approaches, publishes the report on carcinogens and its technical reports and monographs, and develops and validates alternative test methods through its interagency centre.
