American public land grant research university with its main campus at University Park in Pennsylvania, founded in 1855 as the Farmers' High School and spread over more than twenty campuses. Runs a College of Medicine and Penn State Health at Hershey with departments of pharmacology and biochemistry and molecular biology, colleges of science, agricultural sciences, engineering and health and human development, and carries out research in drug discovery and delivery, cancer, infectious disease, nutrition and materials through institutes including the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences and the Penn State Cancer Institute.
