Pharmacia

Pharmaceutical company with roots in the Swedish Pharmacia founded at Stockholm in 1911, which merged with the American Upjohn in 1995 to form Pharmacia & Upjohn, took in Monsanto and G. D. Searle in 2000 as Pharmacia Corporation and was bought by Pfizer in 2003. Made and sold prescription medicines including growth hormone, ophthalmic and oncology products, the arthritis medicine celecoxib and nicotine replacement products, and ran research sites in Sweden, Italy and the United States.
