American public research university of the state of New Jersey, founded in 1766 as Queen's College with campuses at New Brunswick and Piscataway, Newark and Camden. Runs the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and New Jersey Medical School, the School of Dental Medicine, schools of nursing and public health and the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, and carries out research in drug discovery and delivery, medicinal chemistry, antimicrobial resistance and clinical trials, working closely with the state's pharmaceutical industry.
