Sterling Winthrop Pharmaceuticals

American pharmaceutical company with roots in the Sterling Products company of 1901 and the Winthrop Chemical Company, long based at New York and Rensselaer, which made prescription medicines, imaging agents and consumer products including aspirin in the United States. Broken up in 1994, when its prescription and imaging business passed to Sanofi and its consumer health brands to SmithKline Beecham and later Bayer.
