Spanish public university of the Basque Country with campuses at Leioa and Bilbao in Biscay, San Sebastián in Gipuzkoa and Vitoria-Gasteiz in Álava, created in 1980 out of the earlier University of Bilbao. Teaches pharmacy at Vitoria-Gasteiz, medicine, nursing, biology, biochemistry and chemistry alongside engineering, law and the humanities, works with the Basque health service hospitals for clinical teaching, and carries out research in pharmacology and toxicology, pharmaceutical technology, analytical chemistry and biomedicine with its own laboratories and research services.
