German public university in Saarbrücken in the Saarland, founded in 1948 with French support. Teaches pharmacy through its department of pharmacy, which awards the state examination degree, together with medicine, biology, chemistry and bioinformatics, hosts the Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland on its campus, works with the Saarland university medical centre at Homburg for clinical teaching and trials, and carries out research in drug design, natural products from microorganisms, drug delivery and biopharmacy.
