American academic health system based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, closely tied to the University of Pittsburgh and one of the largest non-profit health systems in the country, with hospitals across Pennsylvania and abroad and its own health insurance plan. Provides transplantation, cancer treatment through the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, cardiac care, neurosciences and children's services at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, and runs its own laboratories, imaging services and pharmacies with a large research and clinical trials programme.
