American pharmaceutical company formerly headquartered in Madison, New Jersey, descended from the Philadelphia drug store of John Wyeth founded in 1860 and known for much of its history as American Home Products. Developed and marketed prescription medicines including the venlafaxine and Effexor antidepressants, the Prevnar pneumococcal vaccine, Enbrel and hormone therapies, together with consumer health products and the Wyeth Nutrition infant formula business. It was acquired by Pfizer in 2009 for about sixty eight billion dollars and now exists as a Pfizer subsidiary, while the Wyeth Nutrition brand passed to Nestle in 2012.
