STERIS issues alert on RAPICIDE™ Part A bottles swelling in certain lots

STERIS has identified, through customer complaints, that a small number of RAPICIDE™ Part A bottles in specific lots may begin to bulge or expand over time. Part A is the active component that generates peracetic acid, which can off‑gas during the product’s shelf‑life. The bottle cap is designed with a vent to allow gas to escape; if this vent becomes blocked, internal pressure can increase, causing the bottle to swell. In some instances, excess vapor or liquid may escape when the cap is twisted open, potentially exposing users to the chemistry if appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is not worn. STERIS will issue a customer notification letter to all consignees who purchased the affected lots, advising them to follow proper procedures and PPE requirements. The chemistry remains safe and effective when used as labeled, and replacement product will be provided for any units that must be disposed of.
