Fredrick is a PhD candidate in the Biomedical/Chemical Engineering program at Queen’s University, specializing in biomaterials and the human foreign body response (FBR) research. His work focuses on developing physiologically relevant in vitro models that recapitulate human immune–material interactions, with applications in medical devices, regenerative medicine, drug development, and developing proof-of-concept models. Fredrick's work bridges cell biology, immunology, and materials science to generate mechanistic insights into wound healing and implant integration. He brings experience(s) in: -Advanced cell culture systems (3D/2D co-culture, primary human cells, human cell lines, and mouse models) -Molecular and protein analysis (qPCR & Gene expression analysis, cytokine profiling, immunohistochemistry) -Imaging and structural characterization (confocal microscopy, SHG imaging) -Flow cytometry (multi-color panel design, immune phenotyping) Beyond the bench, he actively translates research into communication and leadership. He serves as Publicity & Digital Communication Manager for the Canadian Biomaterials Society Kingston Chapter and has presented his work at both national and international platforms. He is particularly interested in roles that leverage human-relevant models to accelerate biomaterials development, immunomodulation strategies, and translational biomedical innovation. Fredrick welcomes opportunities to connect with researchers, industry professionals, and healthcare innovators from diverse interdisciplinary backgrounds who share an interest in advancing the future of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
