Having graduated from the University of Porto in Biochemistry in 2018, I obtained a Master degree in Biochemistry from the same university 2 years later. My thesis tackled the emerging infections caused by M. avium using antimicrobial peptides as new alternatives to the currently used antibiotics. Afterwards, I undertook an ERASMUS+ internship at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain where I worked with L. infantum. I am now a student of the BiotechHealth PhD programme of ICBAS and doing my research work at i3S and UCIBIO under the supervision of Tânia Silva, Sérgio Sousa, and Salomé Gomes. My PhD project is based on the discovery of new antimycobacterial peptides active against M. avium and M. abscessus using newly built QSAR models.
