Pharmacist graduate from Marta Abreu University of Las Villas (UCLV), Cuba, I held a teaching and research position in the Department of Pharmacy at UCLV from 1994 to 1998. After specializing in therapeutic chemistry and natural products at the University of Havana, I joined the University of São Paulo in Brazil in 1998 to undertake doctoral research on the development of new antimalarial quinoline-based compounds. In 2003, I joined the BioCIS-UMR CNRS 8076 Laboratory at Paris-Sud University (now Paris-Saclay University) for a two-year postdoctoral position. Subsequently, in 2006, I was recruited as a Temporary Teaching and Research Associate (ATER) at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (Cnam) in Paris. The following year, I joined the Cnam’s Molecular Chemistry team as a Senior Lecturer. This role significantly enriched my teaching experience. I quickly took responsibility for the practical training modules in the program, leading efforts to modernize the curricula and coordinate the shared teaching of practical courses with the Materials Science program. Concurrently, I managed the operational and then national responsibilities for several organic and bioorganic chemistry modules taught to students from undergraduate to master’s levels. I became co-director of the General Chemistry Bachelor’s program in 2012 and have been its director since 2016. In December 2017, I obtained my Habilitation to Direct Research (HDR) from Paris-Saclay University, focusing on the theme "Drug Repurposing: Towards New Therapeutic Molecules." Following this achievement, I was qualified in Section 32 for University Professor roles and was recruited as a Professor in September 2020. I joined the Chemistry, Life, and Health (EPN7) educational team and the Laboratory for Genomics, Bioinformatics, and Molecular Chemistry (GBCM, EA 7528). Currently, my research focuses on medicinal chemistry, particularly in developing new therapeutic molecules. I lead a research program dedicated to designing, synthesizing, and biologically evaluating new heterocyclic molecules with antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. Sustainability in chemistry is a constant concern in my work, reflected in employing gentle activation methods such as microwaves or sonication to synthesize high-value bioactive molecules. My expertise in medicinal and molecular chemistry facilitates comprehensive collaboration with the three teams in the GBCM laboratory, a complementarity that is essential for advancing our research. My research efforts have fostered both national (University of Limoges, CEA, AgroParisTech) and international collaborations (UCLV, University of Sfax and University of Monastir in Tunisia; Lebanese University in Lebanon; University of Valencia in Spain; University of Liège in Belgium; University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland). These collaborations have also led to managing several research projects supported by Campus France (PHC Utique, PHC Finlay, Eiffel Excellence Program). I have been deeply involved in research on small molecule TNFα inhibitors for autoimmune diseases as part of the ANR THERANALPHA project, where I co-led the chemistry and synthesis component. Currently, I coordinate the ANR-PRC 2025 OREGANO project, which focuses on developing biocidal metallic surfaces for the agri-food industry, in partnership with CEA and AgroParisTech. To date, my research has resulted in about fifty peer-reviewed publications, including two patents and several invited lectures, eight of which were at international conferences. Throughout my career, I have mentored students from diverse backgrounds, including co-supervising a joint thesis with the University of Sfax, a CIFRE thesis in collaboration with Peptinov, and two additional theses, one with the University of Monastir and another with the Lebanese University. Since my appointment as Professor in September 2020, my involvement in numerous administrative activities has significantly increased. This includes my contributions to my laboratory (laboratory council), the pedagogical team (EPN council, improvement council, and program director for the Bachelor’s degree), and the institution (Deputy Director of the SMI Doctoral School, elected full member of the Training Council, and member of the Chairs Assembly). As Deputy Director of the Doctoral School, I manage SMI Doctoral School’s quarterly board meetings and biannual councils, serve on the HDR committee, and was an invited member of the HESAM University Doctoral College Council between 2020 and 2024. I am deeply committed to pedagogical innovation and integrating digital technologies into teaching. Since 2020, I have led a team of he CAP’VR project with28 members (profess, technicians, and educational engineers from different specialities ) supported by the Cnam, the Île-de-France region and ANR.
