Ana Raquel F. Sitoe
She works at the Ministry of Health since 1988 as a specialist in the Pharmacovigilance and Clinical Trials Division at the National Medicines Regulatory Authority.
From 2015 to 2020 she was an Executive Board Member – Operations of SMM – Sociedade Moçambicana de Medicamentos, SA, a parastatal pharmaceutical industry aimed to produce and distribute medicines for the country.
On July of 2015 she was awarded with a degree of Doctor in Pharmacy, specialty in Pharmaceutical and Therapeutic Chemistry at Faculdade de Farmacia da Universidade de Lisboa – Lisbon - Portugal.
During these studies Ana Raquel Sitoe affiliated to the Research Institute of Medicines (iMed –Ulisboa) and has been using mass spectrometry, with an electrospray ionization and triple quadrupole analyzer, in drug development, specifically in studies of compounds with antimalarial activity in order to identify them and predict fragmentation pathways, metabolite identification, metabolic half-life determination, drug-target interactions and protonation site, etc.
As a result of these studies Ana Raquel published as author or coauthor some scientific articles including a chapter of book titled "Contribution of Mass Spectrometry in Analysis of Antimalarial Compounds". Ana Raquel Sitoe also achieved skills related to the Medicinal Chemistry and Clinical Pharmacology,
From 1998 up to 2009, she was the Director of the National Drug Quality Control Laboratory (LNCQM) at the Ministry of Health in Mozambique. This institution was established on 1988 as part of National Policy of Medicines in order to ensure safe, effective and good quality imported medicines for the National Health Service.
During these period she has participated in different training courses, seminaries and conferences promoted by different institutions such as WHO, ICAT or Regulatory Authorities of Medicines in African countries, where she achieved skills in Planning Methodology and Leadership, Coordination of Project financed by Swiss Government, Focal Point of the Ministry of Health on issues related to quality assurance of medicines or related areas.
In 1998 Ana Sitoe was certified with a Master Degree in Quality Control in the field of Dermopharmacy and Cosmetics at the Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade do Porto- Oporto- Portugal.
From 1982 to 1988, Ana Raquel completed with honors the degree at the Prague Institute of Chemical Technology of the course of Technology of Organic Production Process in interdisciplinary study of Chemical Technology of Medicines, granting the title of Chemical Engineer.
From 1989 up to 2015, Ana Raquel worked to the Ministry of Health, where besides the analytical activity provided support in the elaboration of curricula for the training of Health Technicians and Pharmacists and lectured different subjects such as pharmaceutical chemistry, quality control, biochemistry, physical chemistry, etc. in Private and Governmental Institutions. Also she supervised some bachelors and master thesis.
