PRINCIPAL

Prof. Dr. G. Babu has been serving as the Principal of Devaki Amma Memorial College of Pharmacy, Malappuram, since January 2011. He holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology/ Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Bharathidasan University, Trichy, Tamil Nadu, India, completed in November 2010. He earned his Master of Pharmacy in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from C. L. Baid Metha College of Pharmacy, Chennai, in March 1996, and his Bachelor of Pharmacy from JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, India in April 1994. His academic career spans several prestigious roles. From 2007 to 2010, he worked as a Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at JKK Nataraja College of Pharmacy, Komarapalayam. Earlier he served as a Professor in the same department from 2005 to 2007 at Devaki Amma Memorial College of Pharmacy, Malappuram. Before these roles, he served as Principal of Sri Gokulam College of Pharmacy, Salem, from 2003 to 2005 and as an Assistant Professor at Swamy Vivekanandha College of Pharmacy, Tiruchengode, from 1995 to 2003. He has made significant contributions to academia, successfully guiding two Ph.D. candidates to completion and mentoring over 50 postgraduate students pursuing their M. Pharm degrees. His commitment to research and education is further reflected in his membership in professional organizations like the Association of Pharmacy Teachers of India and the Indian Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. Dr. Babu has authored 170 scientific articles published in both national and international peer-reviewed journals. He has presented more than 20 scientific oral and poster presentations at conferences across India. Additionally, he has been actively engaged as a reviewer for numerous esteemed journals, including the Journal of Hospital Pharmacy, International Journal of Applied and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Asian Journal of Medical and Clinical Sciences, Drug Invention Today, and many others. He has been invited as a guest speaker for over 10 academic sessions and has chaired more than 20 scientific sessions at various national and international seminars and conferences. Dr. Babu has also served as an evaluator for poster sessions at the Indian Pharmaceutical Congress on two occasions and has participated in over 30 seminars and conferences held across the country. Furthermore, he has organized more than 10 national and international conferences in the capacity of Convener. His areas of expertise include the isolation of phytoconstituents from natural sources, along with their extraction and purification using advanced chromatographic techniques like HPLC. He also possesses extensive experience in antimicrobial assays and hepatoprotective studies, further highlighting his contributions to the fields of pharmaceutical chemistry and biotechnology.
