Research Technician

Muhammad Mustapha is a Research Technician at the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC), Nigeria, where he supports laboratory operations and contributes to ongoing biomedical research activities. At BioRTC, he also contributes to research within the Yoshimatsu Group, supporting studies on visual system development using the Agama lizard, a species with a highly specialised fovea. This work aims to advance understanding of foveal development and its vulnerability to neurodegenerative processes. As part of his professional development, he has undertaken several international training programmes, including hands-on confocal microscopy training at the University of York, UK, cell culture training (SH-SY5Y, fibroblasts, and induced pluripotent stem cells) at the University of Sussex, UK, and an image data analysis course at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Pune. These experiences have strengthened his technical expertise in advanced imaging and cellular models used in biomedical research.
