Graduate Student Assistant

Patrick Williams Jr. is a third-year student at Florida A&M University pursuing a degree in biomedical engineering with a concentration in imaging and signal processing. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Scholars Award and is involved in the Honors Program, Theta Tau, and Tau Beta Pi on his campus. Patrick began his research journey as an assistant in a biomedical imaging and spectroscopy lab at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, where he trained in cell culturing and fluorescence microscopy. During the summer of 2024, he interned at Sandia National Laboratories where he studied biosensors that detected viruses using fluorescent resonant energy transfer interactions between metal-organic frameworks and nucleic acid. This summer, he is interning at UT Southwestern Medical Center, testing the potential of Raman spectroscopy for the clinical diagnosis of kidney fibrosis. Upon completing his undergraduate studies, he intends to apply to graduate school to further his knowledge of biomedical imaging and signal processing and progress toward a career as a physician-scientist.
