Paul Herscu is an American naturopathic doctor and biomedical researcher. Dr. Herscu's work has been primarily focused on the interplay between the environment and the individual. He has spent the past three decades incorporating current concepts in genetics, ethology, and complex adaptive systems in the development of novel methodologies for the identification and characterization of latent classes in various heterogeneous diagnostic populations through behavioral phenotyping. He was granted an ND in 1986 from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine, and a Masters in Public Health (MPH) in 2012 from the University of Massachusetts, with 2 main interests. First, in integrating complementary alternative medical models with conventional medicine and second, articulating the variable vulnerabilities that subpopulations exhibit in any set environment. In the late 1980s, Herscu helped to revitalize and recreate the Homeopathic Academy of Naturopathic Physicians. In 1989, he and his wife Amy Rothenberg founded the New England School of Homeopathy, the longest running post graduate homeopathy school in the USA. In 1991, he began publishing the New England Journal of Homeopathy. Herscu teaches at a number of leading schools of homeopathy around the world and maintains a private practice in Northampton, Massachusetts. His most notable contribution in homeopathy is the development of the analytical method called "Cycles and Segments". Herscu has written several books, and has published articles in major peer-reviewed medical journals. His first book The Homeopathic Treatment of Children, helped shape the way homeopaths work with children in the clinic. His next book, Stramonium laid out his philosophical and practical approaches to the materia medica. Since 1986, he has been a clinician specializing in the treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders ("ASD"), ADHD, and various genetic and chromosomal abnormalities in children for which he is considered a worldwide thought leader in alternative and complimentary treatment. Dr. Herscu has worked with leading biotech and pharmaceutical companies to identify treatment response-related subpopulations and clinical trial enrichment solutions in Angioedema, ADHD (involving both specific drugs and novel ADHD EEG biomarker technologies), and Rett Syndrome (a segment of ASD).   Dr. Herscu also heads the Herscu Laboratory, a medical science research initiative devoted to exploring the synthesis of diverse fields in biology and medical science. His work in Herscu Lab has included subpopulation and prolonged adverse drug response research in Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder ("HSDD"), CNS (ADHD, ASD, Depression) drug discovery, influenza treatment studies and public health readiness in alternative medicine, as well as other drug discovery and development initiatives. He chairs the Scientific Affairs Committee and is on the governing board of the AANP, the national professional society representing licensed naturopathic doctors in the United States of America, and is the chair of the Board of Naturopathy, the licensing board, of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, His main work, and love, remains the practice of homeopathy and articulating its conceptual precepts through classes, courses and writing.
