Sabra Jones, PhD, D-ABFT-FT is a board-certified forensic toxicologist and national leader in transportation safety, impaired driving toxicology, and forensic science collaboration. She serves as the Regional Toxicology Liaison (RTL) for the Northeastern United States, supporting forensic toxicology laboratories and multidisciplinary traffic safety partners across NHTSA Regions 1, 2, and 3. Dr. Jones’ work focuses on strengthening the scientific foundation and practical application of forensic toxicology in impaired driving investigations. As an RTL, she provides training, technical assistance, and strategic coordination to laboratories, law enforcement, prosecutors, judges, and policy partners, with emphasis on emerging drug trends, laboratory standards, testimony, and the interpretation of toxicological evidence. Her work bridges science, practice, and policy to improve consistency, clarity, and confidence in toxicology results used in the justice system. Her professional background includes federal service at the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, forensic toxicology practice at the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, and academic appointment as an Assistant Professor and graduate mentor in the Biomedical Forensic Sciences Program at Boston University School of Medicine, a FEPAC-accredited program. She has remained deeply engaged in forensic science education, training, and accreditation, including participation in program assessment and standards-based evaluation. Dr. Jones earned her PhD in Forensic Science from Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences, Master of Science degrees in Drug Chemistry and Forensic Toxicology from the University of Florida, and undergraduate and graduate degrees in Criminal Justice and Criminal Justice Management with a focus on Substance Abuse Studies from the University of Central Oklahoma. She has held numerous national leadership roles, including serving as Past Chair of the National Safety Council’s Alcohol, Drugs, and Impairment Division and in leadership positions within forensic toxicology consensus standards development. Dr. Jones is active in professional organizations including the Society of Forensic Toxicologists, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and forensic science accreditation initiatives, and is recognized for her collaborative approach to advancing forensic toxicology practice nationwide.
