American maker of laboratory and diagnostic instruments with its head office at Brea in California, part of Danaher, whose history goes back to Arnold Beckman's instrument company of 1935 and Wallace Coulter's cell counter. Sells clinical chemistry, immunoassay, haematology and microbiology analysers to hospitals and laboratories along with centrifuges, flow cytometers and particle counters for research and for pharmaceutical quality control; its genomics arm, built in part on the former Genome Express sequencing business, was later sold on.
