Indian national medicines regulator under the health ministry, headed by the Drugs Controller General of India with its head office at FDA Bhawan in New Delhi and zonal, port and laboratory offices across the country. Approves new drugs, clinical trials and medical devices, licenses the manufacture of vaccines, blood products and large volume parenterals, sets standards under the drugs and cosmetics act, inspects manufacturers jointly with the state licensing authorities and runs pharmacovigilance and import control with its own central drugs laboratories.
