Indian research institute at Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, founded in 1959 and part of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, devoted to medicinal and aromatic plants. Breeds improved varieties of mint, lemongrass, artemisia and other crops, studies their chemistry and biosynthesis, develops distillation and processing methods, transfers agrotechnology to farmers and industry and runs analytical laboratories and research stations across India.
