Cubist Pharmaceuticals (United States)

American biopharmaceutical company formerly in Lexington, Massachusetts, founded in 1992 and focused on acute care anti-infectives. Developed and marketed daptomycin, sold as Cubicin for complicated skin infections and bloodstream infections caused by Gram positive bacteria, together with ceftolozane and tazobactam sold as Zerbaxa and other hospital antibiotics, and was acquired by Merck & Co in 2015 for about nine and a half billion dollars, after which its products passed into the Merck portfolio.
