Japanese pharmaceutical company headquartered at Nihonbashi in Chuo, Tokyo, formed in 2005 by the merger of Daiichi Pharmaceutical with Sankyo, firms whose histories reach back to 1899 and 1915. Discovers, develops, manufactures and markets prescription medicines with a research focus on oncology, and is known for antibody drug conjugates including trastuzumab deruxtecan developed with AstraZeneca, alongside cardiovascular and metabolic medicines such as edoxaban, vaccines and over the counter health care products, with research centres and plants in Japan and operations across the world.
