Peruvian social health insurance institution based in Lima, which covers formally employed workers, pensioners and their families through contributions and runs its own care network rather than only paying for care. Operates national and regional hospitals, polyclinics and primary care centres across the country including the Rebagliati and Almenara national hospitals, provides medical and surgical care, transplantation, emergency services and preventive programmes, and buys and distributes medicines and medical supplies for its network through central procurement.
