American specialty pharmaceutical company founded in 1988 and based in Miami, Florida, which developed and marketed medicines for cardiovascular and respiratory disease. Known for the extended release niacin product Niaspan and the niacin and lovastatin combination Advicor together with inhaled respiratory products, it was acquired by Abbott Laboratories in December 2006 and its portfolio was folded into that company.
