American private Jesuit research university in St. Louis, Missouri, founded in 1818 and the oldest university west of the Mississippi, with a further campus in Madrid. Runs the School of Medicine with departments of pharmacology and physiology and the Center for Vaccine Development, together with schools of nursing, health sciences, social work, science and engineering and law, and works with SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital on clinical training, vaccine trials and translational research.
